Would've gotten a bigger crowd at the SCG.

Re: Telstra Stadium to become ANZ Stadium
Most ALF fans prefer the SCG... easier to fly in and out and not ski past Beirut
The surface is always sh*t and not only confined to the wings that are covered by stands... that Carlton final last year was embarrassing both on the scoreboard and on the ground... maybe it was just Carlton though. Haven't heard any complaints from that other code that plays there... suppose it's sufficient for running in straight lines and passing backwards.

Collingwood have it in blood contract that they don't have to leave Victoria more than 3-4 times a season;)bazza wrote:why don't Collingwood play an actual home game there?Orel Puppington wrote:The swans wanna move out of ANZ but Eddie McGuire is preventing them from moving all their home games to the SCG because of "no public transport out there and ANZ is our 3rd home ground" that is absolute rubbish
ANZ should be fixed by making it a permanent rectangle shaped pitch ASAP.

Not sure what the relative financial arrangements are. Capacity-wise it would certainly be a better fit, but maybe it would cost more? The video scoreboard would need to be carefully managed too, as it is right in line with the alignment of a cricket pitch.Adelaide_United_Red wrote:Why can't they(BBL) play at the showgrounds?the crow wrote:By all means keep the BBL thunder there.....just not international cricket.

Why wouldn't they play across? It's wide enough (I think), and the camera positions are easier to sort then, plus your members/VIP sections are easier to sort too.

If you're OK with the Thunder playing 'across' ANZ Stadium, then yes it would be possible to do the same at the Showground. It's actually 6m wider (134m vs 128m). It's still too narrow really, but anything goes in the BBL I guess...

The Swans lease is up in 2016.

Reading between the lines - they need the stadium to put the screws on the SCG trust, but don't want to play there any more.
Seems about right to me. They're no longer the AFL's sanctioned growth vehicle in western Sydney, they don't need the extra capacity, and the increased costs don't necessarily make it worth while. And they don't win there...

They only played the 2005 final at the SCG because Homebush had a game that night.

Much better.
Square off ANZ, Swans to SCG.
Two problems fixed.

I really can't see them squaring off ANZ. And if the Thunder start to pull some decent crowds (which considering their signings lately they may well do) the stadium owners will be even less likely to do so.walhawk wrote:Square off ANZ, Swans to SCG.

But geez I hope the Swans commit to playing all their games at the SCG and leave ANZ/Spotless to the Giants.

Re: Telstra Stadium to become ANZ Stadium
fF they square off the ends, but left the wings as is (lower deck can come in and out), could they not still play cricket there?
Would be similar to WACA. Perfect size for BB.

Re: Telstra Stadium to become ANZ Stadium
As I said a few pages back the redevelopment proposal converts the ends to move in/out as well, so AFL can still be catered for. They are also planning to redesign the movable sides to extend the field width by about 10m so the cricket straight hit is lengthened.
