Any pics of it in Soccer/Rugby mode? It looks like it would be a super-sized version of Wellington's caketin for rectangular field sports.

Note from this image that it's anticipated fans of the Australian national football team will be waving Wallabies flags, supporting England and Melbourne Victory. The ground converts to rectangle mode by having a few rows of seats plonked on the boundary. Or something.

Good to see they're planning for views to be shiiiiiiiiiiit.

It's multi-purpose, in the sense that other fields can fit inside the footy field. They're just not in the same postcode as the seats.

It needs an athletics track to be a true multi-useless stadium.

that's always the way with 'multi-purpose' venues in Australia. The Oval sports get the prime viewing and the other sports are supposed to feel lucky and grateful that we're allowed to use the hallowed turf for our sports:(

If they're going to be the predmoninat tenants, then yeah...why wouldn't that be the case?

Also, has Perth's bid for the Commonwealth Games official or is the athletics track render just a tease?

So, how much blue tarpaulin would be in place for a FIFA event? If the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban is an example then all the seats bumped in would be covered and another 8-10 rows all around the ground as well.

No worries about a FIFA event, football will never be played there. Perth Oval is big enough capacity wise for most socceroos internationals. And when the extra capacity is required it's the sort of game that Sydney showers itself in glory over and claims it's theirs by birth right.

Those tennis courts are already there. I haven't seen any plans to move them.

What socceroos game is going to satisfy the criteria a) a crowd of 30,000 - 60,000 in Perth and b) not garner the interest of Sydney and Melbourne?

How's that going to work? The height difference between the first (permanent) row and the playing surface doesn't look to be that great so they won't be able to drop many rows of seats in front.

But yob's right, you'd think the sort of game that would more than half fill the ground would be a major world cup qualifier. Might happen I suppose, they took that game v Japan to Brisbane recently.

The drop in seats are more about making the 60,000 seats look less sh*t, than the addition of 600 "prime" seats that can't see over the advertising moldings on the sidelines. It's offensive to be honest. This is an AFL stadium, with some token efforts to embrace other sports and co-opt any extra cash that would've been spent on other grounds. Don't bother with the tokenism, just be AFL loud and proud and get on with it.
