Premier Barnett's vision for sport in Perth. New stadium is the priority with aDerby opening. Subiaco to disappear. WACA to be downgraded with some remodelling.

It's cute that Barnett suggests the stadium - slated for completion in 2018 - could be ready for the 2017 AFL finals series.

Because they haven't been burned by over promising and under delivering before.

Not sure why this is considered stupid.
Architecturally, it's quite stunning.
Practically, that's up to Perthites to decide.

Blockbuster Test matches will move from the WACA Ground to the new Perth Stadium and the home of cricket will open its doors to football.

In releasing its Vision 2030 blueprint, the WACA announced a strategy that will see Test matches against tier one countries – currently England, South Africa and India – plus One Day Internationals and Big Bash games played at the new Burswood venue from the 2018/19 summer.

Personally I'm disgusted about the moving of most Internationals and BBL games to Burswood rather than keeping them at the WACA. Look at Sydney, they have the SCG which hosts most of the events in the city that require an oval while Stadium Australia hosts most of the rectangular and big events of the city. Why can't Perth follow a similar model, only that the WACA hosts most cricket events in summer and the WAFL game of the week in winter, while Burswood hosts the big events. The WACA could be re-developed with a capacity of around 30,000 mainly by demolishing the Prindiville and the Inverarity stands as well as the temporary stand podium and replacing them with one MCG standard stand. That's how I'd redevelop the WACA.

Orel, have you been to the WACA before? The WACA have only themselves to blame that test matches have to move from the ground. They have mismanaged their organisation for decades...

All six cranes are on site...

Will be about a 30 minute stroll from this beauty when its finished in 2017. Odds on that the Ashes will be the first event held at the venue, will fill the hotel rooms throughout the city...
