Although I've heard plenty of complaints on social media - the club was expecting around 15k so there weren't enough ticket outlets and gates open, members (all of which were given GA access only) were mixed with the public, not enough catering outlets open, stock running out etc. Many people were still only getting into the ground well into the first half. It's a multi-year deal so they just need to get the above sorted and I'm sure the experience itself will be improved next year as the venue looked great. Pity about the result!

I also thought it looked fantastic, but in your honest opinion.......was there really 10000 empty seats - a third of the stadium?

Hell yeah. The God Terrace was empty for starters. Geelong's AFL games, with the packed out terrace, look bigger and rarely post far north of 20k.

On the crowd, it's a stunning result, but I'm convinced it's a novelty. The repeat customers pool is limited to the 6k sitting in the Hickey Stand, the rest were ripped off big time.

For the A-League to expand, clubs need to be able to start with crowds not a lot bigger than 6k and survive. If they could sustain that and build from that, they could be a prospect down the track.

Wollongong is 50% larger and they actually play the game. There's the next cab on the rank.

Geelong doesn't have the player base of Gosford, and is utterly saturated with the Geelong Cats AFL team. All the commercial dollar is spoken for, The Cats are effectively the landlord, and the largest industrial player in the town is closing. You'd be crazy to open shop there.

It's a "one day..." prospect rather than imminent addition.

Can't see it happening, or it being much of a success if it did happen.

That said I fap to the idea of Geelong FC wearing a WBA style kit. Distinctive stipes, yet at the same time redolent of the Cats.

IMO the next stage of expansion is consolidation in Sydney and surrounds. I'd welcome Auckland, but the deal should be heavily contingent on Sky tipping in as much as we're sending over the Tasman.

Brisbane would be the next candidate for a second team - if they had the right stadium. Perry Park 20k farkn. A redeveloped perry park really has me leaning back in the chair and thinking of Australia.

Perry Park I presume?

But I would have thought if something like this happens, why wouldn't the Roar play there?

20k at Perry Park is a genius idea. This should be the platform of Labor's state election campaign alongside daylight saving.

An idea for an eastern stand at Perry Park is to take the eastern stand from Ballymore, it hasn't been used in 10 years cos it is in the middle of nowhere and you could float it on a barge along Enogerra Creek to install at Perry Park.

Accessibility of Perry Park cannot be understated, Bowen Hills railway station captures every service line in SEQ and it is walkable from the Valley. It has everything you need for a vibrant sporting and cultural precinct.

Yes Perry Park. The Strikers vacated the administration and Brisbane Roar now live there. Perry Park is in play.

I've noticed that 'Simmonds Stadium' stages 4 & 5 have gone out to tender for builders.

Does anyone know what it involves and when are they looking at doing it?
For some reason I thought they were going to sit tight for another 12 months before considering further works.
