Stadiums with picturesque backgrounds

Post by Dr H »

Hi guys firstly can I just say that this is an excellent site I am fascinated by sports stadiums.

I know there are many stadiums with picturesque backdrops around the world but I thought I'd start the thread with one that people may not have heard of.

I recently spent some time in La Linea, Spain a town literally five minutes walk from the British dependancy of Gibraltar and went to watch the local football side Real Balompedica Linense.

The Estadio Municipal is in itself not very special,a basic athletic stadium built in the 60's with stone seats that is in bad need of a lick of paint. However the view from the covered grandstand is spectacular, the beach runs immediately behind the opposite stand so you can gaze out on the meditteranean and to your right the rock of Gibraltar dominates the landscape.

Gibraltar airport is only 1/2 km away so you can see the planes landing coming across the sea and past the rock.It is very surreal being in a stadium full of Spaniards looking out over the Med then turing your head to see the British castle on the rock.

Below is the beach behind the open stand, the ground entrance is just to the right of this picture

Currently there is a thread of a very similar topic running on twg. There is one stadium in Croatia for a second division west-south team (NK Imotski) that is absolutely majestic. The ground is carved into a mountain and the terraces are literally on top of the playing field.

Wait a minute - there's a lemon behind that rock!

Estadio Municipal de Braga is also built on a mountain. And no seats behind the goal gives you a decent view.

It´s the Tivoli Neu in Innsbruck (Austria) homeground of FC Wacker Tirol. The Stadium is one of the eight venues for the UEFA EURO 2008 final round.

Bellreive Oval in Tassie always looks nice with the River Derwant in the Background.

Redfern Oval looks beautiful with the 3 housing commission blocks shadowing the Eastern Hill!!!
