New Brighton stadium approved last week.

Very nice design IMO and I like the way its blended in to the surroundings.

It is a nice design, love the turf roofing at the stadium ends.

I am hoping all the space around the stadium is not just going to be carparks.

It's all going to remain fields to soothe local residents objections they are going to share a car park with a nearby university.

What's the capacity? looks like 20-25k to me.

Yeah me too.

22,000 at £20,000 per seat this probably explains why new English grounds are normally flatpacks St Marys was built in 2000 at a cost of £10,000 per seat.

Fair play to Brighton for doing something different.

I agree...the only thing that I don't like about this stadium is the way the seats behind both goals taper off towards the lower end but it's a very nice stadium nonetheless.

Salford new stadium passed brand new 20,000 to be built they are expecting the casino and leisure complex will earn over a million a year for the Reds as thousands of people per day pass the site.

Arup wrote about their design:

'The idea beind the tilting rectangular design is quite possibly the most impressive part of the design. The bulk of the development is concentrated in one stand along the length of the pitch. As you can see on the projections, it reaches far higher then the ends and certainly more that it's opposide side. The reason for this is that the main area faces the M60 Barton Flyover. Approximately 250,000 people travel through the flyover in their vehicles every single day. This one stand has purposely been stacked up to make the stadium appear larger than it actually is from a distance. The wow factor, exposure and potential audience is enormous. If just 1% of those M6o commuters decided to attend a match at this impressive stadium they noticed while drivng over the motorway, Salford will have clocked up an extra 2500 people.'

That new Barton development for Salford has been posted here before. It looks a bit lopsided with all the hotel rooms etc.

What is the latest on this project? When can the Reds and their two dozen fans expect to move in?

Leigh's complex looks like it will be finished in two years. Good for them. Nobody likes Hilton Park - even their own fans (of course Rochdale won at Leigh in 2004!).

Work begins after a meeting next month which is apparently a formality the main issue was getting it passed on Thursday,so they have a couple of years to increase their fanbase by 400%

Headingly is getting a new stand and being refurbed so that only leaves St Helens,Bradford,Cas and Wakefield needing new or improved grounds in the ESL and there are rumours about new stadiums for the latter two...but aren't there always normally followed by the word merger and lots of teeth nashing.

In addition to Leigh sports village another new ground being built is the Laker stadium in Doncaster so the general standard of stadiums in ESL and NL 1 is improving dramatically.

Doncaster are asking for trouble. they are changing their name from Dragons (which brought about their fanzine "Who the Hell is St George?") to "Lakers". Doncaster Lakers. Where do I vomit!!! At least the ground looks good.

There are always whispers about Wakey. Rumours about Saints died down after recent money troubles. Cas won't be fixed in a hurry. You neevr hear anything about it. They should at least build on stand. Bradford's plans fell through. I think they can do a good job fixing Odsal piece by piece. Now that the speedway is gone I'd extend the field to near maximum size (68m x 122m). This would improve the viewing of existing seats. I'd also put a stand in front of the new corporate centre they built behind the goals.

The Doncaster Lakers name is a joke,how do you present a strong brand image of a lake?What exactly is the mascot in the costume going to be dressed as?

I've always thought Odsal would be easy to sort out,if they dig the pitch about 10 feet further down in to the ground(like the old Porto stadium)
make it standard size and sort out the in goal then add extra rows at the front that would bring the crowd closer to the pitch then put seats and a roof on the uncovered side-on terrace it would have more seats more cover and retain a similar capacity.
