Grimmett grabbed Ms Kelly by her arm and punched and strangled her, causing multiple fractures to her face and throat and extensive bruising to her face and body.
He left her house, leaving behind the Collingwood Football Club scarf he had been wearing that night at the hotel.
Grimmett then drank more alcohol before he went to a reserve and burned the clothes he had been wearing. He played football 12 hours after killing her.
