Scud makes it 4 in a row

Austadiums News

At Wimbledon the news for Australia could not get any better as Philipoussis ranked 48th in the world overan the 13th seed player Frenchman and one time Australian Open finalist 7-6 6-3 6-3 in just under two hours.

For parhaps the first time in history Wimbledon will have an Aussie finalist for the fourth straight year. Pat Rafter in 2000,01 and Lleyton Hewitt 2002 and now Philipoussis in 2003. In a remarkable career after three serious knee injuries, conflict previously with well known australian davis cup captains and coaches and an infamous bad relationship with Patrick Rafter. Has led to him reaching his second grand slam final his last in 98 when he played compatriot Patrick Rafter who won the U.S Open back to back. The one time outcast of Australian tennis is now the golden boy and is being rejoyced by the whole sporting community

The game was highlighted in the first set a see-sawing affair which was held to serve as Philipoussis gritted it out in a tie break. The awesome serve of the scud prevailed resulting in a 7-3 win in the tie break. The second and third sets where all the scuds as he consolidated on the weakness of Grosjean in the warm London sun. Reaching a top of 21c the scales where always tipped in the aussies favour when he won the second set 6-3. After initial resitance the Scud prevailed and finished the game off in style.

The Scud has made all of Australia proud, his determination, grit, and battle against the odds is admired who would have predicted he would have beaten players of the class of Agassi and Grosjean. This has been a great fairytale story, no matter if he wins or lose, it will be a great story to tell kids around australia how you battle back from adversity. The Scud has pure class and if he wins at Wimbledon on Sunday Night he will be truly considered a Legend of Australian Tennis. If not for Phillipousis Australia would never have beaten France in Nice a few years ago. This has been a fortnight of pure heaven for Tennis freaks like myself. Representing the entire nation I say, Congratulations Scud on your awesome career Davis Cup Win, US Open Finalist, Wimbledon Finalist (perhaps title) and 12 career titles showcase in full light your great talent. Well Done

Bad luck Flip. But this will be a good platform for the US Open and more importantly, the Aus Open.
