you would want to stand too, if you rode a horse to the game....

This reminds me of what VFL would have looked like if Sir Kenneth Luke's grand plan came true.

Exactly - with the original plan for a 166,000 capacity at Waverley, I've long wondered if Maracana influenced the design of VFL Park (which was designed in 1963/64).

seeing good pics of it gave me 2 reactions:
1st - wow, that's huge.
2nd - um, but hang on, it's now no bigger nor more impressive than the MCG... and even Telstra looks more special than that...

Maracana has the prestige and history to match the MCG, and far more then Telstra Stadium.
Thus why Maracana has the reputation it is...it looks just like your average stadium - but when you sit there, I can imagine you would just be in awe (of what sort of history has taken place at the ground).

I would think that none of them sat. Or if they did, not for very long.
It still is a cathedral of the game and I'm glad they aren't demolishing it.
Oh, and another thing... 2-0 never get's old!

Looks like the artists impression of what Waverley Park was planned to look like.

Unfortunately the pitch isn't long enough to host the Aussie Rules world cup final.
