Lloyd Robson Oval, Port Moresby
A friend of mine works in PNG and went along to a game. He's not a stadium buff but he did take some photos I can borrow.
For those that do not know, Lloyd Robson is the major Rugby League stadium of PNG - the only country in the world that lists RL as its national game. Lloyd Robson Oval is home to many Kumuls Test matches as well as hosting major domestic finals in PNG.
Considering how nuts for RL the people of PNG get, it is a surprise that neither the Chinese, the Japanese nor the Australians have built a new ground. The state of the ground has prevented many matches being played there (amongst other factors).
Enjoy the pics.

Does James agree?Jeffles wrote: Considering how nuts for RL the people of PNG get, it is a surprise that neither the Chinese, the Japanese nor the Australians have built a new ground. The state of the ground has prevented many matches being played there (amongst other factors).
I suspect not...
Nevertheless, brilliant shots, absolutely brilliant.

Hey Egan, who is James?
From memory the capacity of this place is around 15,000. Looking at the pictures (and google earth) I'd say that would be in sardine can mode. The ground record is 17,000 for a Test match v Australia in 1986. Later that year PNG recorded their only Test win against NZ at the ground. I cannot recall a Test match where tear gas wasn't used. The people go nuts for RL.
One PNG venue I'd like pics of is Goroka. It is where PNG defeated GB in 1990.
More enclosed hospitality space than Carlaw Park at its best!Ian Ritchie wrote:Carlaw Park sans the whimsy.

Click the author name of the A-League thread (started all those years ago) and you will get a refresher. He used to bag me for being upset about having a stadium hating government and that I should get my perspectives in order
Oh and the debate when I said the Athens Tennis Stadium was identical to Sydney, him disagreeing. The funny thing is Beijing Tennis Stadium is almost identical to Sydney
Back to the stadium, I want to go to a League game in PNG at least I would be more then entertained by the stadium, regardless of what I was watching.
