New SCG stand plans announced as hosting war continues

In what appears to be the latest move in the ongoing battle between the Sydney Cricket Ground and Telstra Stadium for rights to host cricket matches in NSW, the SCG Trust has indicated this week that the venue will receive a $52million upgrade next year, including a new 7000-seat covered stand on the former hill area at the ground. Building is expected to commence some time in 2005.

The SCG Trust also stated this week that it has been officially advised by Cricket NSW that it is one of two preferred tenderers for the staging of international and domestic cricket in Sydney from 2006 onwards, and that the Trust looks forward to meeting with Cricket NSW to hear their views following their initial review of both bids.

Cricket NSW said that it will continue to take all appropriate steps and time needed to ensure the best outcome for the game of cricket whilst implementing the highest standards of probity and due diligence. Once the process of negotiations is complete, the NSW Cricket Board will make a further statement.
