Members Equity Stadium to undertake redevelopment in October

Chris Egan • Thursday 3rd February 2005

At the site of the former home ground of WAFL club East Perth, major planning is being undertaken in the development of Stage 2 of the master plan that will eventually create a 35,000 seat rectangular stadium for Perth. The redevelopment is expected to last 12 months and be ready in time for the new Super 14 teams second season.

Roy Depczynski explained to austadiums.com that Members Equity Stadium would start the redevelopment in October and be ready by the start of the Super 14 season. "We expect construction to start in October." "The redevelopment of Members Equity Stadium includes a substantial amount of planning...While the total project time has not been determined, the Super 14's team can safely play at Subiaco Oval knowing that their new home at Members Equity Stadium will be 100% completed for their 2007 season".

While there are many benefits to Rugby and Soccer alike, the proposal is to keep Members Equity Stadium a 'clean' stadium, although there is scope for Rugby and Glory to combine a membership package together. "We promote a 'Clean' stadium to all venue users exclusive of seating and membership restrictions. There is however the opportunity for Perth Glory and the Super 14's team to create a membership should public demand call for it."

Despite being a WAFL Ground for over 90 years, the transformation of Members Equity Stadium into a world-class rectangular stadium is well underway.
