Tickets to Rugby World Cup 2003, the world's biggest international sporting event next year, are on sale from this weekend.

Rugby World Cup 2003 will feature the world's top 20 playing nations locked in a thrilling 44-day battle played for the game's ultimate prize, the Webb Ellis Cup.

A total of 48 matches will be played in 10 cities across Australia beginning when defending champions, the Wallabies play Argentina at Stadium Australia on October 10 and concluding with the Final, also at Stadium Australia, on November 22, 2003.

The 44 day event will bring in Sydney, Wollongong, Gosford, Brisbane, Townsville, Canberra, Melbourne, Launceston, Adelaide and Perth bringing all 10 cities alive creating an Olympic Games style atmosphere.

Tickets to all Pool matches are allocated on a first come, first served basis from this weekend until November 24, 2002 and every Pool match ticket bought gives people one chance in the Ballot to purchase tickets to Prime matches.

The more Pool match tickets people buy, the greater the chance in the Ballot. The Ballot for Prime Matches will be conducted on February 12 next year.

The Prime Matches are the Opening Match and Opening Ceremony, all four Quarter Finals, both Semi Finals and the Final.

Tickets can be ordered through the official Rugby World Cup 2003 Ticket Booklet which will be inserted in newspapers across the country this weekend.

Australian Rugby Union Managing Director, Mr John O'Neill, said Rugby World Cup 2003 is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and urged all Australians to immediately take up the opportunity to enjoy the tournament first hand.

"Rugby World Cup 2003 is the biggest international sporting event in Australia since the Sydney 2000 Games," said Mr O'Neill.

"It doesn't matter which nation you support or whether you are a rugby fanatic, Rugby World Cup 2003 is a live, colourful, international event which all people can embrace and enjoy."

Mr O'Neill said ticket prices are very affordable and everyone has the opportunity to experience the passion and power that Rugby World Cup 2003 generates either in their home city or interstate.

Individual ticket prices to some matches are as low as $5 and $10 while generous family packages (two adults and two children) can be bought for $20.

"There are plenty of tickets available and the ticket prices represent good value for money," said Mr O'Neill.

"The spread of matches across the country and the pricing for those matches ensures that Rugby World Cup 2003 will be accessible to everyone," he added.
