New-look AAMI Stadium unveiled

Austadiums • Thursday 12th February 2004

The South Australian National Football League (SANFL) in conjunction with AAMI officially launched the individual moulded seating at a new look AAMI Stadium.

SANFL Executive Commissioner, Mr Leigh Whicker said "Just three and a half months ago, AAMI Stadium contained over 29 kilometres of aluminium seating. Whilst that seating served our arena well for a number of years, it has been the strong desire of the SANFL Commission and the League, to upgrade seating comfort for our patrons".

'"At an installation cost of $3million dollars, this project could not have been undertaken without the tremendous sponsorship support provided to us by AAMI".

Mr Ian Badger, AAMI State Manager - South Australia, was delighted with the upgrade saying, "It is a tremendous feeling to see such a tangible result from our partnership with the SANFL, and the benefits to the spectators attending this stadium will be terrific".

Football fans will be given a chance to experience the comfort of the individual tip-up seats when the Adelaide Crows play St Kilda in the first round of the Wizard Home Loans Cup on Sunday 22nd February.

A delighted SANFL President Mr Rod Payze commented that, "AAMI Stadium is a fantastic place to watch football, and it has never looked better than it does today with the installation of the new individual seating. In addition to providing superior comfort for our patrons, the seating refurbishment has also presented the opportunity for additional disabled seating areas, allowing for the first time, partners to be located along side disabled patrons attending AAMI Stadium".

The SANFL has also taken the opportunity to change the way we know each section of Stadium seating. Where sections have previously been labelled using an alphabetical system such as S,T,U etc, sections will now be known as bays and will be identified numerically. For example Bay 102,103 Terrace Level,
204, 205 Concourse Level and 301, 302 for the Members Balcony.

The new system will allow patrons to more easily identify the area where their seats are located and will bring the Stadium in line with the practices of other major Stadiums around Australia.
The League also wishes to advise South Australian football supporters that as part of the re-seating program undertaken at AAMI Stadium during the off-season, the League has modified the standing areas available in the walkway between the terrace and concourse levels.

Whilst standing areas will still be available, clearly defined line markings will separate the standing areas from dedicated walkways. These measures are aimed at improving access and egress for supporters whilst at the Stadium. Importantly these changes will also assist emergency service personnel in accessing an area in the event of an emergency situation.

The official capacity of AAMI Stadium after the installation is 51,309.
