Fankhauser Reserve
Fankhauser Reserve is located in Southport, a suburb on the Gold Coast. The venue opened in 1989 at a cost of $2.7 million and is the home ground of the Southport Sharks Football Club, which has a large licensed social club at the ground. The Sharks compete in the second-tier AFL competition, currently known as the VFL, while it has also hosted games for the Gold Coast Suns reserves, AFLW fixtures and pre-season AFL games. The ground was named after then Sharks vice president Wally Fankhauser who donated $2.2 million towards the new headquarters. The club is located on the wing with a view over the ground from behind glass and on a deck, plus undercover standing room beneath it, while a grass hill surrounds the remainder of the playing field, with a total capacity of around 8,000. Lights allow for night games.
