WACA development prompts new deals

Austadiums • Monday 2nd December 2002
Having recently completed a major redevelopment of the WACA Ground in time for the third Ashes test match, the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) has secured a number of new signage deals for various parts of the stadium and is also in the market with two significant naming rights properties. Darren Beazley, the Association's recently appointed GM of business development, told On Sport that they are currently looking for naming rights partners for both the Lillee-Marsh stand, formerly sponsored by BankWest, and the Players Pavilion, which underwent a major overhaul as part of the redevelopment. Beazley said they are asking $100K for the Players Pavilion and $175K for the Lillee-Marsh. The WACA has already signed a new sponsor for the North East Podium at the ground, however the deal will not be announced for a number of weeks.

Beazley also said that prior to the third test he was able to close a number of smaller signage deals by placing details of the packages on the WACA's website. He said having the details online, including the price of the packages and pictures of where they were located, proved to be a valuable aid when selling the spaces over the phone.

The WACA is also in the process of appointing a new manager of sales and marketing to work with Beazley, whose business development position is a new one within the organisation and was created to focus on long term initiatives, including attracting new events and sports to the ground. The marketing and sales role will be responsible for selling sponsorship packages of up to $250K among other duties.
