Suncorp Stadium has flooded

Queensland's flood waters have hit Suncorp Stadium Wednesday morning, creeping onto the playing surface, while a small fire also broke out in a power generator room.

The Queensland Floods have caused widespread damage throughout the state and reached Brisbane on Tuesday. Suncorp Stadium is situated in Milton - one of the first suburbs evacuated by police. The worst is yet to come however with the Brisbane River expected to peak late Wednesday or Thursday.

The ground floor of Suncorp Stadium was reported to be covered by over 1 metre of flood water while streets surrounding the stadium have flooded well over 1m and close to 2m in areas.

A small fire was reported at the stadium Wednesday morning which is believed to be coming from a room which houses the power generator, which short circuited after power was cut to the area.

Suncorp was scheduled to host the Brisbane Roar A-League clash against Wellington Phoenix this Sunday however that has now been postponed until at least January 26th.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the entire pitch is now covered by more than 1 metre of water, and that will rise.

Meanwhile, the Brisbane Exhibition Ground (RNA Showgrounds) as well as QEII Stadium are both being used as evacuation centres.
