Five kilometres from the city, Royal Randwick is considered to be racing headquarters in Sydney. With a history dating back to 1833, the course has a reputation for being a good all-weather track and holds major Australian races during the Autumn and Spring Racing Carnivals. Granted the right to be known as Royal Randwick by Queen Elizabeth in 1992, the course is a wide, sweeping surface of spirit and thundering history attended by charming, ‘olde worlde’ structures and polished, modern stands. A new world-class six-level grandstand and surrounding facilities completed in 2013 have increased Royal Randwick's capacity to provide flexible spaces that can be used for both racing and non-race day events.
