Yarrow Stadium (NZ)

Redevelopment/Construction

Yarrow Stadium is a rectangular stadium located in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Formerly known as Rugby Park, it underwent a major redevelopment completed in 2002 which included two new grandstands, providing covered seating for approximately 9,000 spectators and associated servicing facilities for players, the media and the public. The new-look stadium officially opened on 4 October 2002 and is also known by its non-commercial name - Stadium Taranaki. The Taranaki Events Centre Trust has developed Yarrow Stadium into a first class sports and entertainment centre with covered seating for 4,000 people in the eastern stand, 5,000 patrons in the covered western stand, as well as temporary and terraced seating which gives a total capacity of 25,000.

The stadium was damaged by the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake, with the two grandstands declared unsafe and closed in 2018. Yarrow Stadium will partially re-open in 2022 after the West Stand is repaired, and a new East Stand will replace the existing grandstand and is expected to open in late 2024. The project is expected to cost $50 million, and will also include LED lighting a new hybrid pitch.
