Suncorp Stadium is celebrating its 20th anniversary since it reopened in 2003, and fans can vote on the best event held at the Brisbane venue.

Completed over two years, the $280 million major redevelopment of the venue, traditionally known as Lang Park, was officially completed on 1st June 1 2023, when the stadium hosted the Broncos v Knights in front of 46,337 spectators.

Since then, more than 20 million fans have passed through the Suncorp Stadium gates, having hosted:

  • 343 rugby league games for a total of 10.7 million spectators
  • 219 soccer games for a total of 3.1 million spectators
  • 177 rugby union games for a total of 4.5 million spectators
  • 33 concerts for a total of 1.3 million spectators.

The Brisbane Broncos hold the honour of the greatest number of games (128 for a total of 4.2 million spectators) with the newest tenants the Dolphins having already amassed 156,000 patrons over five games.

2023 has already had several major events with over 173,000 patrons witnessing Ed Sheeran over three nights with a ground attendance record of 58,439 set during the Saturday night show.

Minister for Sport Stirling Hinchliffe said, “For Suncorp to have more than 20 million fans file through the gates over those 20 years, is a true testament to the stadiums ability to continually attract the biggest acts and events from around the globe.

“The Cauldron has become a fortress for Broncos, Reds, Roar and now Dolphins fans, who get to cheer on their teams at the best rectangular stadium in the world.

“And the show goes on - with this incredible theatre for sport set to host several FIFA Women’s World Cup matches next month, and of course more immediately we hope it will again be a field of dreams for the Maroons as they look to clinch another Origin series on the 21st of June.”

Last week it was announced that Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe will play at Suncorp Stadium this November 8th as part of their World Tour adding to the 33 concerts the venue has already hosted since it reopened in 2003.

The double act will join the likes of Elton John, Paul McCartney, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift as some of the world-famous musicians who have played at the venue.

Foo Fighters will play at Suncorp on December 12, while Pink will perform two concerts in February 2024.

Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive Todd Harris said, “One of the great features of Suncorp Stadium is its multi-purpose nature, with everything from extreme sports to football to live music able to be held at the venue.

“More excitement is building with less than two months to go until the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 with eight matches to be played at the stadium.”

To mark the milestone, Suncorp Stadium has launched the ‘Battle of Best Moments’ to determine the best moment in its 20-year history.

Events include the 2021 NRL Grand Final, Queensland Reds Super Rugby Final win, 3 x Brisbane Roar Grand Final victories, 2023 Rugby World Cup, the Battle of Brisbane, and more.
