While a location is yet to be locked in, design images have been revealed for the future headquarters of the proposed Tasmanian AFL club.

Designed by architectural design firm Populous, the plans for the AFL Tasmania high performance facility are consistent with the majority of other AFL club training bases across Australia.

The final design is expected to include a full-sized oval, grassed training areas, 9000sqm building, indoor training facilities, strength and conditioning areas, locker rooms, medical facilities, administrative offices, parking and community accessibility.

It is anticipated the facility will be ready to use in 2026 as the new club prepares to enter the AFL and AFLW competitions in 2028.

The Department of State Growth say the new facility needs to enable the “recruitment and retention of high-quality players, coaches, support staff and administrators” and “will be a community asset and a vital link between the Tasmanian AFL club and the community in which it is built”.

The facility will be built close to Hobart and will be able to be used for community purposes and by Tasmanian elite athletes.

An official location has yet to be selected for the facility, with several councils in the greater Hobart area currently undertaking community consultations to help choose the best site, with proposals due by the end of November and a preferred location expected to be selected by early 2024.
