Marconi Stadium

Post by Glory and Fame »

Went to the Sydney FC v Young Socceroos trial at Marconi Stadium last night - last-minute spur-of-the-moment decision to go, and it wasn't a bad game. Ended up a 1-1 draw, better standard game than I was expecting.
Anyway, here's some pics I took of the ground:

From the grandstand at the club end, looking to the main stand:

Looking towards the seats on the outer side, which were fenced off last night. Also shows the nets that catch off-target shots on goal:

The Stable, which was once seating but has now been converted to a small standing-room terrace:

No one there! On the Sydney FC website, they said 2,500.

Anyway, great photos.

Pig's arse there were 2500 there. They must've been counting the old Italian ladies playing Tombola in the club.

750 u can count them individually I would think.

I think Sydney FC think they need to up the crowd to look like they are a big club.

Anyways its a pre-season match no dramas if the crowd is that low.

Apparently most of the people were to the left of the first picture.

I'd have guessed about 1,000. The stadium holds 10,000 (all seater), they closed off the eastern grandstand. The western grandstand was reasonably populated, but there were 4 people behind the goals at the northern end (5 when I went down and took the pic looking towards the social club) and maybe 50 or so in the grandstand next to the club.

1000 seems fair. That western stand fills up well usually.

Out of curiousity, what sort of hot food does the canteen at Marconi Stadium serve?

In another A-LEAGUE trials Newcastle United Jets beat Sydney United (NSW Premier League) 3-0 at Adamstown Oval. I saw a picture of the oval in a discussion on here recently.

Damn, so many grounds I probably won't get to see now.

I like going to new football venues... new experiences, new people.

Would anyone past Strathfield support Sydney FC anyway? Half tongue in cheek, half serious question.

Yes they would.

But past Parramatta? More difficult.

That was my concern with using a venue in the east (not exactly a soccer heartland).
