Coopers Stadium voted A-League’s best
Professional Footballers Australia has revealed that Coopers Stadium was voted by the players as the best stadium, in terms of pitch quality and atmosphere for the 2022/23 A-League Men’s season.
Following weekly assessments of the atmosphere at A-League games by players from both the home and away teams throughout the season, Adelaide United’s fans provided the best atmosphere at the redeveloped Coopers Stadium during the season, with a 4.75 star rating out of 5 for atmosphere.
Coopers Stadium was also voted the best quality pitch in the league by players, earning a 4.5 out of 5 rating. Stadium ratings are based on pitch hardness, smoothness, pace and overall quality, with a separate rating provided by players for stadium atmosphere.
A $53 million redevelopment of Coopers Stadium was completed ahead of the 2022/23 season, which included a new roof on the eastern grandstand to further enhance the venue’s atmosphere. New light towers, big screens, food and beverage outlets, amenities and corporate seating complete a three-stage upgrade that commenced in 2021 and meets FIFA requirements to hold Women’s World Cup fixtures.
The Adelaide venue will host five games as part of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. During the tournament, it’ll revert to its non-commercial name of Hindmarsh Stadium in line with FIFA regulations. One of five Australian stadiums to host matches, the first will be held on July 24, with a Round of 16 game on August 8.
Ticket sales for the tournament, which is being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, have now exceeded 1 million.
