Plans for a new waterfront development at Melbourne’s Docklands have been unveiled, giving a new look to the western side of Marvel Stadium.

The Victorian Government has announced it is exploring development opportunities for two large waterfront sites, incorporating AFL House and the adjacent Channel 7 Headquarters, with options for housing, commercial and entertainment.

Renders by Grimshaw Architects show two new high-rise towers and a new waterfront façade for the stadium, meaning the existing stadium would be completely unseen from the water. Towers previously built have already obstructed views of the stadium from most angles.

The joint venture between Development Victoria and the AFL is separate to the recently-completed $225 million tax payer-funded redevelopment of Marvel Stadium.

AFL executive general manager Matthew Chun said the league was committed to delivering a “memorable experience for fans and visitors to the precinct and excited by the opportunities this agreement presents at the site”.

Mr Chun told a Property Council of Australia event in October last year that there were opportunities to “go high” at its current headquarters at AFL House, as well at the Channel 7 building.
