Margaret Court Arena
Margaret Court Arena at Melbourne Park opened in 1988, along with Rod Laver Arena, which it is located adjacent to. Originally known as Show Court One, the venue was renamed in 2003 in honour of Australian tennis champion, Margaret Court. The venue underwent a major redevelopment which was completed in 2014. The upgrade included a retractable roof, which is the fastest of its kind in the world - able to open/close in just five minutes, additional seating to boost capacity from 6,000 to 7,500, corporate facilities, four video screens, sound system and improved spectator facilities. The arena now serves as the number two arena during the Australian Open, despite being having the third-highest capacity behind Rod Laver Arena and John Cain Arena. In addition to tennis, Margaret Court Arena now also hosts basketball, netball and concerts, having hosted NBL matches and Super Netball home games for the Vixens and Magpies.
