Albert Park
Albert Park is a multi-sport facility located in the regional Queensland city of Gympie, hosting rugby league, cricket and athletics. Opened in 1935, the venue features a historic wooden grandstand with undercover seating for about 400 spectators. Smaller temporary stands surround the playing arena, with a total estimated capacity of 5,000. The ground is prone to flooding and has been under water on a number of occasions, including the major flooding events of 2014 and 2022.
Albert Park has hosted international rugby league, with visits by Great Britain in 1950, France in 1955 and New Zealand in 1963, 1967 and 1978. It has also played host to an international cricket team, with Queensland playing the West Indies in December 1960.
Albert Park still plays a vital role in Gympie's sporting framework and is set to undergo an overhaul under a council master plan in the near future.
